Study Proves Microfiber Cloths Reduce Transfer of C.diff

Please see attached for a recent study published in the July2015 American Journal of Infection Control. We knew microfiber would reduce the transfer of C.diff and other dangerous pathogens, but now there’s a study to support it. This is a good article to promote and encourage the use of microfiber in healthcare facilities.

Summary
  • Microfiber cloths can remove significantly more C difficile spores from surfaces compared with cotton cloths.
  • The ability of microfiber cloths to retain spores provides convincing evidence that this cleaning approach could reduce transfer of microorganisms.
  • Utilization of microfiber cleaning cloths in the health care environment may diminish the risk of spread of antibiotic-resistant organisms.
  • Additional clinical studies using a sporicidal agent are needed.

Triple S Selected as Nationwide Distribution Partner for Sporicidal Disinfectant with 3-Minute C. Difficile Kill Claim

Sanotracin RTU represents an important step in the battle against healthcare-associated infections (HAIs)

Billerica, MA (PRWEB) June 27, 2012
Triple S is pleased to announce that the company has been selected by BioMed Protect LLC, St. Louis, MO, to be the nationwide distribution partner for Sanotracin RTU Sporicidal Disinfectant Cleaner, the only US EPA-registered one-step sporicidal disinfectant cleaner with a 3-minute kill claim against Clostridium difficile spores.
Clostridium difficile, also known as C. difficile or C. diff, is a bacterium that can cause symptoms ranging from diarrhea to life-threatening inflammation of the colon. Medical authorities have now recognized C. difficile as one of the most dangerous and fastest growing healthcare acquired infections (HAIs) in the US. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), C. difficile is linked to 14,000 deaths each year, with most infections occurring in the process of receiving medical care.
The ability of C. difficile to form into a spore allows the organism to survive in the environment and on surfaces for weeks or months. This presents a tremendous cleaning challenge to infection control and environmental service directors. The CDC recommends cleaning and disinfecting with an EPA-registered sporicidal disinfectant. Sanotracin RTU works within three minutes of application against C. difficile and within 2 minutes against MRSA, CA-MRSA, VRE, E. coli, Salmonella, Staph, Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter Baumannii, and a broad range of other pathogens.
Sanotracin RTU will be the cornerstone of a complete Triple S Healthcare Infection Control Program available from Triple S Member-Distributors that will include SSS NexGen Microfiber, SSS Hand Hygiene, and the new SSS CleanSpec Surface Monitoring System.
Sanotracin RTU provides maximum effectiveness without the risks of using bleach. Some of the bleach-associated risks include damage to surfaces, handling and mixing bleach by housekeeping staff, and respiratory issues for patients and staff. In addition, one-step Sanotracin RTU saves time and labor cost compared to bleach, which requires the surface to be rinsed. Sanotracin RTU leaves no film on surfaces.
“BioMed Protect selected Triple S to be the nationwide distribution partner for Sanotracin RTU based on their comprehensive network of distributors. The Sanotracin line of products is the next generation of sporicidal disinfectants. We were looking for a partner who could provide the needed training and support to users. As with other products in this category, there is no support for infection preventionists, environmental service directors or front-line staff when it comes to surface disinfection,” stated Mark Regna, BioMed Protect Vice President of Sales. “The key factor in our decision was the training and support that Triple S can offer to healthcare facilities, with more than a 1,000 plus trained facility consultants who are focused on providing training, education and building relationships with healthcare facilities at the local, regional and national levels. Another key factor is the reach of Triple S with 175 local distribution facilities and three strategically placed regional distribution centers. The broad product offering that Triple S offers to environmental services for day-to-day operations provides a consolidated program for healthcare facilities. We look forward to this partnership and what it brings to the healthcare industry.”
Alan Sadler, President of Triple S, stated, “We are very excited about our opportunity to partner with a technology leader like BioMed Protect. We believe BioMed Protect’s decision to select Triple S as their national distribution partner is a resounding validation of the effort and energy that we have invested in building the most efficient logistics platform married to a national network of facility maintenance solutions providers. We take great pride in knowing that our collaborative efforts will play a meaningful role in combating a very serious healthcare issue.”
Sanotracin RTU represents an important step in the battle against healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Sanotracin RTU is expected to be available, in most states, through Triple S Member-Distributors by mid-August. For more information please visit http://www.triple-s.com.
